When John the Baptist first laid eyes on JESUS, he might have identified Him as many things.
God’s teacher? God’s leader? God’s miracle worker? God’s example.
But John’s unction was none of these things, although JESUS is everything.
“Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (Jn. 1:29)
For Israel, it was a polarising pronouncement. One that went to the heart of their sacrificial system.
God’s full and final solution for sin is not a system.
It is a Man, and His name is JESUS.
